Dogecoin was created on December 6th, 2013 by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer using a a fork of Litecoin . A joke cryptocurrency featuring a Shiba Inu dog on its logo from the famous "Doge" meme . Dogecoin quickly created a strong online community being the first meme coin .

Dogecoin is mined with asic and fpga devices using scrypt PoW algorithm. It can be mined alongside with Litecoin a process as merged mining which is appealing to miners as they can mine both coins simultaneously with the same machines.
